Like many Christians I get information on our Persecuted Church “family” worldwide, and like many, am utterly shocked at times by the way Christians in Islamic countries are treated. All are considered 2nd class citizens and openly so, but many others are equally openly persecuted dreadfully with few standing up for them. But as I was praying for them tonight, I was thinking about the fact that if Muslims were truly half as persecuted by the West as they like to think they are (supposedly the reason for all their fighting etc), then the world would rightly be up in arms about it, but instead, where Muslims live in a Western country no matter how religious or secular, they are always treated equals to those of other faiths and allowed to practice their beliefs openly without any major problems (except in some small pockets perhaps). Yet we find the opposite happening in Muslim countries who refuse to allow any other religion “air” space let alone freedom to live normally and practice their faith as they so choose (irrespective of whether that involves proslytising).
It suddenly struck me that the reason people fight in any sense is because they fear their foe in some shape or form – Bush feared what Saddam could do hence the Iraq War, equally Afghanistan. But Islam fears Christianity and Judaism because of the fact that more of the world is Western holding to Christian views, and that scares them. They feared the US so they attacked it. They fear Israel (truly amazing given all the size of the country), so they attack it (And before you attack me, I’m not defending Israel’s policies per se, just its right as a country to exist in peace). And that’s why they persecute Christians and Jews when they find them living in their strongholds – because they fear what could happen if too many people were exposed to love, peace, forgiveness, tranquility, joy, hope, salvation, and heaven forbid JESUS!!! Their own belief system demands total unswerving loyalty to it regardless of anything else, and if people actually had the freedom to look at other faiths for too long, they might just like what they see better and shift sides so to speak, and whatever would that do to the militant Islamic armies that require all the youngest, most impressionable children to indoctrinate with enough hatred to be killing machines by the time they reach their teens.
One very striking point to make is that if you look at religious history over the past 2000 odd years since Jesus and in particular at the rise of Christianity throughout those early centuries – the faith took over most of the developed world by storm but aside from the errant Crusades which were absolutely wrong and oppositional to the Gospel teaching, Christianity spread through a message of love and forgiveness by choice of each individual who submitted to its teachings. Islam when it started moving forward anywhere did so categorically by force – there is NO choice within Islam and there never has been. People do not choose that religion for the most part readily (although sadly many are doing so now for all the wrong reasons), the vast majority of its proponents have been born into it and once in, cannot leave unless they want to face an early and sometimes quite brutal death as a branded apostate. In fact, you don’t even have to leave it to have that problem as is seen with the dire wars between various factions through the ages.
Christianity may have its divisions and denominations, but all adhere to the most basic of fundamental aspects -that God is one, yet also in three Persons, that He sent Jesus to suffer the punishment we all deserve for our sins and Who thus is the final and sole sacrifice before Him to make restitution for our sins, that His Grace is freely available to all who seek it, and His forgiveness likewise, and that in Jesus we can have a personal relationship with Him and in doing so, will have our lives changed forever. All of this is borne out through the conversions of multitudes of those who were terrorists, paedophiles, and others who would be considered the most evil amongst us (as well as all of us who don’t warrant such a title) whose lives were so radically changed, few could argue that something amazing had happened to them. Muslims like to say theirs is a religion of peace, but sadly where Islam reigns so does utter chaos and violence (the list of Islamic countries persecuting other religions is quite a large one, check it out at
They don’t condone anyone to live alongside them who doesn’t hold to their creeds (Jews, Christians etc are always 2nd class citizens) unlike Christian countries who are ultra democratic allowing everyone to believe whatever they want (sometimes to the country’s detriment!) without fear or favour in most places, and yet this is what Islam hates – it wants to have a theocratic rule in every country in the world – world domination and subjugation by any means possible, fair or foul. Those outside of Islam who’ve studied it, know full well that they hold to a doctrine based on lies, and are happy to lie to get whatever they want for Muhammed himself commanded it to be so:
“speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praise worthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible “ (Ref: Ahmad Ibn Naqib al-Misri, The Reliance of the Traveller, translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller , Amana publications, 1997, section r8.2, page 745).”
That’s what Israel seems to be forgetting in its current thrust for peace – that all the “promises” being made by Islamic leaders are worth no more than the empty air they’re breathed into.
But I also appreciate as I’ve said many times before, that there are many ordinary Muslims who don’t hold to the more radical teachings of their faith but they choose to remain in the faith nonetheless not desiring to do anything to call attention to themselves, or to even seek to see if the faith they’ve been born into is what it says it is.
Ultimately God is in control, and He will ensure that the prophecies within His Word will all come true, and He has stated that Jesus will return to Jerusalem to set up HIS Government over the world, and it certainly won’t be Islam!
