Mary & JesusFor some that statement won’t come as any surprise since many have come to recognise its Truth.   But sadly, it’s more common to hear how Catholics are of late being taught the opposite and indeed worse – that Mary not only is the mother of God, but was also sinless and thus equally able to answer prayers and become a 4th person in the Godhead – sorry, but that’s exactly what they’re stating – if she was sinless and capable of forgiving sins then she is GOD and thus also gains that additional title.   That’s the main reason the Pharisees were condemning Jesus – because He claimed to be able to forgive sins.  However, while I could very easily spend a whole post pulling this whole concept to shreds very easily – one scripture alone amongst others shows very clearly that Mary herself knew that was never the case:-

Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

In other words, Mary recognised that she was a sinner before God in need of a Saviour and He was providing the same.  But aside from that aspect, I wanted to provoke you to think a little deeper than the usual way in which we all (esp Protestants) think of Mary in any respect in her relationship to Jesus.  When Gabriel appeared to Mary and she was granted the awesome prospect of becoming a parent to the future Messiah and King of Israel and the world,  she was specifically told that the Holy Spirit would undertake something amazing in her body:

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Now maybe it’s just been me who has (errantly) had a thought somewhere in my mind that it was only Jesus’ father who was left out of the process but that because Mary was the one who was pregnant and was so much more involved, that somehow some part of her was part of Him – yet to ever, ever think of such a thing is blasphemous.   For Jesus to have had any human input to his DNA would have been for Him to have been only 1/2 as different as us but to have still been born with at least 1/2 of a sinful nature if such is possible.   Thus for me, I now would contend that Mary in no way was involved in His life (in this respect) other than providing the earthly womb He required to be born into it and thus once again how could she be a Mother in the sense that Catholicism dictates – an earthly mother passes on her genetic makeup to her child.    But here, the Holy Spirit provided everything required for Jesus to have a human existence while still being fully Divine.

Yet Mary was indeed given the most awesome role – to be a parent TO (rather than of) God in human form – big difference and certainly a huge responsibility although we’re not told of any particular concerns or worries that she may have had in her undertaking of it other than the usual parental concerns of missing children!.    I’m always reminded at this time of year about this as I have that wonderful song “Mary, did you know?” on my Christmas playlist and every time I listen to it I get goosebumps just thinking about the Incarnation – with respect to miracles, for me, this has to rank as the ultimate one – for the Creator to become the Created, and then allow His creation to kill Him so that He might be able  to save it from itself is just mind blowing (you have to understand the previous Jewish sacrificial system to appreciate the requirement).   Yet so many totally miss the incredible Gift He thus provides because they would prefer to work their way to heaven in a false religion or sometimes in no religion at all – man continues to do what he has always done – try to save himself and not involve any possible Deity in the process because that would imply weakness!  kaporat-755248.jpg Yet to not be willing to humble oneself and accept the Gift Jesus has provided by giving Himself as our sacrifice (and a once and for all time sacrifice at that) is spiritual suicide.   To think that God will allow you access to His HOLY Heaven on the basis of your own “goodness” is to make a total mockery of Jesus’ death on the Cross.    One Messianic Jewish Pastor I listened to recently put it very well – he spoke about how in Orthodox Judaism the husband will often perform a ritual of swinging a chicken over his family before slitting its throat as a sin offering – if it wasn’t for Jesus we may all be doing such things in an attempt to appease God’s wrath and judgement on us for our sins!   Please don’t ever make the blasphemous error of giving Mary the Glory attributable only to her Son before God for your judgement will be heavy and you will have no excuse before God who has provided the Truth in His Word for you to know fully and don’t listen to anyone who tells you (wrongly) that you have to have someone “interpret” it for you – God has made it plain and easy for all who truly seek Him to read and understand – only Satan desires you to not read it for yourself because he knows that more than anyone.

So this Christmas, if you’ve not yet done so, or are unsure about where you stand with God – accept His awesome Gift of salvation in its fullness and entirety and discover the Truth for yourself – His Gift is totally free, and provides more for you than you can possibly ever imagine for His Love is complete for you and greater than any love you will find on this earth.   He will satisfy your every need to the uttermost and change your life for the best for all eternity!    Don’t wait for some “better” time – the time is NOW – He may take your life from you before this day is ended and it will be too late to accept it then.

Luk 12:20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself ? ‘ “
